Town opts for triple yellow lines

New measures introduced to deter motorists from parking where they shouldn't

The market town of Pulman Stokely has decided to combat the increasingly severe problem of illegal parking through the introduction of triple yellow lines. Councillor John Habshaw explained that the idea had been suggested by a council employee who had formerly been employed in the razor blade industry. “An increasing number of motorists in Pulman are ignoring the existing double yellows and parking violations have shown a marked increase over the last year, up 36%. Therefore we have had no choice but to introduce the triple yellow. We are still reviewing the need for a quadruple yellow line. However, in areas where illegal parking may present a particular hazard, we are certainly not ruling it out.”

The council claims that other local authorities have expressed an interest and will be watching closely to see how the scheme operates with a view to introducing additional yellow lines themselves.
